The inscription on the blade reads Gûd daedheloth‘Foe [of the] great-fear’ [intended to mean: ‘Foe of Morgoth’s Realm’]   gûd n. ‘foe’; CE *ñgoto, *ÑGOT-, ÑGOTH-. daedheloth n. ‘great-fear’; cf. daer ‘great’, mut. dheloth is a lenited form of deloth ‘abhorrence, loathing’.
